Mega Rich Super Star Lizzo — Who Dressed As A Hefty Bag For the VMA’s — Whines About Being Oppressed

Ultra-wealthy music superstar Lizzo told an audience of her peers and screaming fans at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards that those who voted for her to win the “Video for Good” award should also vote to change laws that are oppressing “us.”

Lizzo waltzed down the red carpet for the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards in Newark, New Jersey, wearing a black Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown, according to People. Upon immediate and closer inspection, the piece looked more like a Hefty bag or possibly that lining that goes between the interior and exterior of a tent to protect campers from the elements, sort of like a tarp.

Still, her ridiculous dress didn’t come close to the strange nature of her acceptance speech. Lizzo was nominated for four awards Sunday, including the “Video for Good” category for her song “About Damn Time.”

She started her acceptance speech by calling the entire crowd, “biiiiiiiiiiitch,” as seen in a clip shared on Twitter. She went on to thank Christian Breslauer, who directed the video, and then said, “I don’t know what music ‘Video for Good’ means, but I do know what your vote means.”

“Your vote means everything to me, it means everything to making a change in this country,” she continued. “So remember when you’re voting for your favorite artist, vote to change some of these laws that are oppressing us.”

As I watched Lizzo’s acceptance speech in front of thousands of screaming fans, surrounded by the most famous men and women in the world, my heart hurt for how it must feel to be quite as oppressed as she. To have to wear a dress that likely cost more than most people’s rent and be adored as a demi-goddess by strangers must be really, really hard. Thank goodness she’s using her win at the MTV VMAs to make a meaningful change in this country, apparently. Because if we can depend on anyone to help humanity, it’s rappers who dress in trash bags and call us “bitch” and “hoe.”
