Before passing away, David Crosby called former Crosby, Stills & Nash bandmate Graham Nash, likely in an attempt to rebuild a burned bridge between the two, according to Nash.
Rockstar Graham Nash spoke to Rob Tannenbaum in an interview with AARP published Feb. 8. “[Crosby] had sent me a voicemail saying that he wanted to talk to apologize, and could we set up a time to talk,” he told the nonprofit. But Nash never received a call from Crosby, and the latter passed away soon after.

“I wonder if [Crosby] knew he was dying,” Tannenbaum said.
“You know, I’ve thought about that myself. He was a very intelligent man. I wouldn’t put it past him to know that he was actually at the very end. The truth is, Rob, we’ve been expecting David to pass for 20 years,” Nash responded, citing Crosby’s “liver transplant and all his stents.”
Crosby said during a June 2021 interview with Howard Stern that he had generally disappointed his bandmates, saying, “I let all three of those guys down, totally, by becoming a junkie,” according to Ultimate Classic Rock (UCR). (RELATED: Rock Legend David Crosby Dead At 81)
The expanded version of the massive supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young experienced problems within the band, because Crosby had reportedly insulted Neil Young’s significant-other-turned wife, Daryl Hannah, which was a catalyst for conflict between the two members, according to UCR. Nash added that Crosby’s voicemail and overall attempt to reach out was “very significant” for him. “It made David’s death a little easier for me, because I realized that we were going to get together later in his life,” Nash told the nonprofit.
David Crosby was a founding member of 60s psychedelic sensation The Byrds before going on to form Crosby, Stills & Nash. The band is often regarded as the very first supergroup, with Nash being from the English band The Hollies, Stephen Stills from Buffalo Springfield and given Crosby’s formidable role with the Byrds.
