Popular artist Ben Kweller, a singer-songwriter who recently toured with Ed Sheeran, announced the death of his 16-year-old son Dorian on social media, Tuesday.
Kweller took to his Instagram account to update his fans and followers about the tragedy that left his family reeling. “There’s no way that I can be typing this but I am … Our son, Dorian Zev Kweller, was killed last night,” Kweller wrote. “He was only 16 and he was a true legend.”
Dorian’s mother, Liz, reportedly confirmed that he had died in a car crash, according to TMZ.
Kweller fondly described his son’s personality traits in the touching tribute post.
“Kindest, gentle soul, a friend to all. If you knew him, you know,” he wrote. “We’ll never get over him as long as we’re here on earth. Please keep his spirit alive with your memories and the music he made: @reallyzev.”
He also noted that his son was following in his footsteps as an aspiring musician, prior to the tragedy. “Dorian Zev wrote and recorded songs every day. A true poet from the day he started speaking. “His first gig was in two weeks, at SXSW,” Kweller continued. “My last text with him was about the merch he wanted to make. My baby boy was at the starting line with so much life ahead of him … I have no idea why things like this happen.”
The artist said he and his family were “in complete shock” and thanked his followers for their “prayers and support” following the “disaster.”
